Consultation on IHEC Phase II Roadmap Document
Founded in 2010 IHEC set out to provide high-quality epigenomic datasets to the global research community aiming to further our understanding of the role of epigenetic processes in healthy and diseased cell states. Central goals of this first phase of IHEC were to define and coordinate the production of reference maps of human epigenomes for key cellular states relevant to health and diseases, to facilitate rapid distribution of the data to the research community, and to accelerate translation of this new knowledge to improve human health. The IHEC Data Portal and the coordinated release of two publication packages in Nature and Cell family journals is testimony to the joint efforts and progress made in this IHEC Phase I.
In the face of ongoing technological advances and rapidly evolving epigenomics research, IHEC now enters into a second phase. Building on the achievements of the first phase, IHEC members have started to expand their focus from data generation to the application of these datasets through coordinated data assessment, integrative analyses and interpretation with the goal of providing a standardized framework for clinical translation of epigenetic knowledge. These new directions including the incorporation additional fields of activity within IHEC have led to the generation of an IHEC Phase II Roadmap Document.
IHEC is launching this consultation to invite the research community, partner initiatives and other stakeholders to share their views on the current draft and help shape the future of IHEC.
