Welcome to Tokyo!
IHEC Successfully holds Annual Meeting 2015 in Tokyo, Japan.
From November 16-18, 2015 the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and the CREST Team led by Dr Yae Kanai had the pleasure to host this year’s annual meeting and to welcome IHEC members from around the globe at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.
“In the fast-moving world of epigenomics, the annual meeting gives us the unique opportunity to discuss research activities with our IHEC colleagues from all over the world personally, to learn first-hand about the latest international scientific achievements and progress of IHEC, and to jointly set priorities for future actions”, Dr Toshikazu Ushijima, Chief of the Division of Epigenomics at the National Cancer Center Research Institute, Japan underlined the significance of the annual gathering.
The three-day meeting offered various sessions including country updates, workgroup meetings and reports as well as the IHEC Science Day, which provided high-level talks by renowned scientists on their latest findings in epigenomics. With nearly 250 participants on this dedicated Day of Science, this year’s meeting marked the highest attendance yet in the series of IHEC conferences.
Day Aiming to give younger researchers a platform to present their work, the meeting agenda also included a series of excellent, 5 minute “Rapid Fire Talks”. The best talk was acknowledged with an award by the Japanese Society for Epigenetics (JSE), which was given to Wouter Meuleman from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) for his talk on an information-theoretic approach for analysing Chromatin State Models.
In 2016 the IHEC annual meeting is set to take place in Brussels from September 7-9.
